Which one is the best to host your WordPress website? Currently there are so many hosting providers on the market: Bluehost, A2 Hosting, SiteGround, etc.
Our experience has shown that there are 3 most critical factors for a WordPress hosting:
- Load time of Speed
- Uptime, that needs to be at least 99.94%
- Customer Support who really helps you out if you have questions
We have tested out 20 most popular “WordPress” hosting providers and checked all their important parameters over a 10-12 month period.
NB! Your uptime or speed will depend on hosting package you will choose, the size of your site and from the number of visitors your website gets. There could be some differences compared to our statistics.

Bluehost is one of the most popular hosting service providers among small business owners and bloggers. We recommend Bluehost to all our customers who use WordPress for creating their websites.
Statistics shows that they’re hosting more than 2,1 million websites and their main parameters are very good:
Bluehost has 24/7 customer service available for any questions you may have. Unfortunately they are not the cheapest, the. Prices start at $3.95 per month,
but they give a free domain name (for 1-year) plus site migration for new accounts, too. However we always recommend to go for the Choice Plus plan, because it will give you needed additions to run a professional website and it has the best quality/price ratio.
But their price is worth every penny, because if we look their main parameters during the last 10 month, then average uptime is >99.99% and load time is 406ms.
This means they’re the most reliable web hosting provider with only 1 hour of downtime per year. Without a question the number 1 host.

1-2. A2 Hosting (www.A2Hosting.com)
A2 Hosting is rather new company in the WordPress hosting, however in the recent years their popularity has grown a lot. We would say that they are the rising star among hosting providers!
Their biggest statement is that they claim to be 20x faster than the competitors, and it´s true, their load time is fastest compared to other top layers. A2 Hosting prices start $2.96 per month!!!
A2 Hosting has averaged 392ms upload time in a period of 12 months. In our experience this is an instant page loading. Their technical set-up works in a way, that they have implemented caching, which stores data in a visitor’s browser, therefore A2 Hosting won’t have to request information from your website every time someone tries to access it.
Their uptime has been during the last few months to an average of 99.98%. During the one year period they were offline less than 3 hours, which is outstanding performance.
They offer 24/7 customer support via live chat, email, phone, and ticketing systems. Their customer respond rate is very high and their answers came with easy to understand manner.
|+ Fastest WordPress hosting and WordPress optimized servers||– We couldn´t say any|
3. HostGator Cloud (www.HostGator.com)
HostGator hosts more than 10 million domains making them top free most popular web hosting providers (next to GoDaddy).
Their technical parameters are very strong as well, 10-month average load time is 421ms and uptime 99.97%. During the one year period they were offline for only 3 hours. HostGator is the third fastest web hosting service provider.
HostGator provides a shared hosting option, which is a new and improved cloud hosting. They are more expensive and cost – $13.99/mo, but they’re currently discounted to $2.75/mo if you decide to buy 1 month or 6-month plan. After that, you have to pay regular price. Their Premium plan cost exactly as much a Bluehost.
HostGator 24/7 customer support is very helpful and answering questions quickly, still we always prefer Bluehost.
|+ Officially recommended by WordPress.org, very good load and uptime time, 1 free site transfer, 1-click installation for WordPress||– Higher renewal fee|

|+ One of the most flexible hosts||– Their pricing is above the average|
6. iPage (www.iPage.com)
iPage is one of the cheapest hosting providers on the market. However we have used their services in some of our projects, and we could say, that they are pretty reliable.
Their uptime is decent and during the 12 month period they’ve managed to deliver 99.98% uptime.
iPage average loading time is 831ms., which is not bad, but it’s well below the top competitors results.
Yes, iPage is cheap and their prices could be as low as $1.99 a month.
However this rate is for 12-36 months, and you would be technically locked into a super long-term deal to get that price.
We think that there are better options for hosting WordPress. Although the customer support and prices are nice.
|+ Best cheap hosting for WordPress||– Not very knowledgeable customer support, bad reputation online|
7. Dreamhost (www.Dreamhost.com)
DreamHost, has over 1.5 million sites and they also provide WordPress hosting.
DreamHost claims to be “Award-winning Web & WordPress Hosting”. Their page loading times came in at an average of 724ms over the 12 month period.
You get unlimited bandwidth and they’ll credit your account for every hour that there was an issue with uptime.
This approach gives assurance that uptime is one of their main KPI´s
Their customer support is friendly and answers to our questions came fairly quickly.
|+ Reliable, fast, good customer support||– Rather expensive|
8. InMotion Hosting (InMotionHosting.com)
InMotion Hosting is a hosting provider with over 300,000 domains. They also own a hosting website named “Web Hosting Hub”.
They claim to be the “best web hosting for business” and their prices start from $4.99.
InMotion Hosting provided average uptime of 99.94% over the last twelve months.
For the customers outside US there is also one drawbacks with InMotion Hosting, there is no instant account access.
That means if you’re an international customer, and for example outside US, there might be a delay when attempting to verify your new account.
All in all InMotion’s overall performance is average and don’t expect much out of it.
Their customer support is friendly and answers to our questions came fairly quickly.
|+ Reliable, good customer support||– Below average speed, no instant activation for people outside the US|
9. GreenGeeks (www.GreenGeeks.com)

However GreenGeeks showed great results in speed where their average loading time was 520ms – this is 36% higher than the industry average!
They have 24/7/365 customer support via live chat, phone, or email support. Some of their features that they provide to customers are free data transfers, free domain name, and free site migration.
GreenGeeks offer a 30-day money back guarantee and each pricing plan is all-inclusive too. Obviously GreenGeeks weak side is their uptime.
|+ Strong load time, free site transfer, free domain name, free site migration||– Uptime good be better|
10. Arvixe (www.Arvixe.com)
|>97.75%||more than 1000 ms||2/5||www.Arvixe.com|
Arvixe performed the lowest 99.75% uptime.
The industry average for speed is around 790ms.
Even that is not very fast, to be honest – some of the fastest hosting providers load within ~300ms.
Even worse was the loading speed which was more tnan 1000 ms. That is truly slow.
Just one second delay in page load time could cost Amazon 1.6 billion. Consider this when making your decision.
Unfortunately their customer support was slow too. We tried to ask a few basic questions and it took over an hour for a response.
From pricing perspective they also one of the most expensive ones.
